Résumé :
Views are windows to the database. They provide access to only the portion of the data that is either of interest or related to an application. They are virtual relations used for queries in the same way regular tables are used. However, since their contents are not explicitly stated but described through queries, they are not always updatable, neither at the schema nor at the data (content) level.
In the first part of the talk we will discuss some solution that can be used to alleviate this problem and achieved the desired updatable views.
Views can also serve as a linking tool for connected different parts of the data within and across datasets. In the second part of the talk we will show how views can become first class citizens in the dataset to link dynamically values as they are updated, and how the view definition can be updated automatically as the schema is changing.
